The Doors of Perception is a 1954 book by Aldous Huxley. The book describes his mescaline experience in May of 1953. Huxley recalls the effects of the drug and later makes connections to philosophy, science, art, and religion. He describes the experience from the "purely aesthetic" to "sacramental vision".[1]

The Doors of Perception was highly influential and met a variety of responses, positive and negative. Many found Huxley's description compelling, but others were critical of the book's evaluation of psychedelics having potential benefits for science, art, and religion.
