Indole alkaloids are a class of naturally occurring organic compounds containing a benzene ring fused to a pyrroline group[1]. They make up a large percentage of alkaloids, with over 4000 discovered. In the context of pharmacology, many psychoactive chemical classes are indoles, including the tryptamines, lysergamides, beta-carbolines, and ibogaine.
