Background

For about a month now I have been attempting to undergo a psychedelic experience to try and break out of routine or depressive patterns of action, and to experience new things. My first attempt at this was taking what should have been a decent dose of LSD which ended up having little effect due to the fact that I was still taking my SSRI antidepressant at the time. After consulting a friend, I figured out this fact and promptly discontinued my use of said antidepressant. Unfortunately, I was too hasty in doing so, as the sudden cessation of taking this medication caused a number of discomforting symptoms. Next time, I will be more patient in winding down my dose in order to mitigate any side effects of discontinuation. My second attempt at trying to have a psychedelic trip was equally unsuccessful. I ate a few grams of dried psilocybin mushrooms but ended up not experiencing any noticeable effects. Like before, I discussed with a friend why I did not have the desired experience, and this time the conclusion was that I simply didn't take enough for my body weight for it to be a meaningful dose.

This leads us to the 28th, when in the early afternoon I retrieved some LSD I bought and ended up taking it later in the night. This night was the night in which I finally put the puzzle pieces together in order to constitute a psychedelic experience. I may have had some tolerance from my previous attempt at taking LSD, which may have been why my 385μg trip was not as intense as some might expect.

Experience report

Over the course of six or seven hours I ended up taking 385μg of acid, and I now feel that my impulsive redosing was probably not a great idea and I won't use the drug in this way next time. In order to maintain the readability of the report and save face, I'm going to omit all the times I took more after my initial dose.

T+ 0:00 - At 8:00pm, I put half a tab into my mouth and took a shower to kill some time before the onset of the substance. After getting out of the shower I played some games on my computer for a while, waiting to observe any effects.

T+ 1:00 - After an hour, I reported that I was feeling "pretty good and relaxed" and that the stimulating high felt similar to being on Adderall.

T+ 2:00 - Around this time, I noticed that I was getting some visual effects from looking at the screen. At the time I was playing Super Monkey Ball and chatting with friends online and realized I had been playing the same level in practice mode for ~30 minutes instead of progressing in the game, which was amusing to me. Eventually, I looked up from my computer monitor to the ceiling at some point and it was spinning or seemed blurry.

T+ 2:40 - At this point, I noted that I was experiencing visual effects in things which were 'subtle but became unsubtle.' When looking at a surface initially or glancing at it, there wouldn't be any noticeable visual distortions, but if I looked at it for longer then geometry or alterations would become apparent.

T+ 3:15 - While playing Monkey Ball, I started to notice geometry forming in the bright grassy textures of the game. I described the geometry as light and looking triangular. A bit later I felt like I was experiencing time dilation, as if things were around 30% slower than they normally were. I remember seeing geometry elsewhere during this time, noticing the granite flooring in my bathroom flowing and seeing angular geometry arise from the texture of the drywall. One specific thing I noticed about the geometry was that it seemed to be printed or extruded on top of a surface, which I observed while looking at my black mousepad.

T+ 7:00 - After sitting at my computer for a few hours, I realized that I wasn't going to have a particularly interesting trip if I just played video games the entire time. This epiphany inspired me to put on my sneakers and go outside. Not wanting to continue my trip alone while outside, I donned a pair of wireless headphones with a microphone so I could continue to converse with my friends. It felt nice to step outside and experience the cool summer air as I walked down the street. I stopped to look at a tree and felt myself compelled to plant my hands into the grass at the edge of a neighbor's front yard. After walking about for a few minutes, some of my friends go to sleep, leaving only me and a friend I'll refer to as A in the call. A has a decent amount of experience with psychedelics and was able to share their thoughts on said substances as I wandered about. At this point, I was now entering the park in my neighborhood, where I noticed angular geometry beginning to form in the tall trees. The park had a playground structure which I proceeded to climb while discussing some psychological/philosophical concepts with A. Our conversation focused on the notion of desire and how it manifests. A explained some different theories about the origin of desire from different thinkers, which interested me greatly. Once 15 or so minutes had elapsed, I decided to continue traversing my neighborhood. As I left the playground, I stopped to stare at an oak tree in someone's yard. Looking at trees was one of my favorite parts of the trip, as it was interesting to see how much more alive they seemed at the time. The wood seemed to be breathing lightly and the vibrant leaves would began to swirl or shift, exhibiting a rainbow of color. Hopefully someday I will be able to artistically render what trees look like to me while tripping on LSD. While continuing my journey around the block, I had some really insightful discussion with my friend, and I remember talking about how LSD affected my cognition and made it easier to express myself. As a made my way back home, I felt at ease, and felt that some of the fears I had about doing any particular thing had receded. After reaching my house, I continued to talk with A for another half hour or so until they needed to sleep at ~5:00am or so.

T+ 9:00 - Thus began the next leg of my trip, where I spent some time by myself listening to music and laying down. I thought about different things, like how files on a computer live and die and are reborn. At some point I resolved to take a bath, and it was an enjoyable experience. As I bathed, I could see geometry forming on my bare legs, and within the bubbles. The light behind the blurry glass of the shower door also seemed to be more colorful than usual. After getting out of the shower, I spent the rest of the morning coming down from the high. I was feeling rather distressed as I was still feeling the stimulating effects of the drug and had nothing on hand to bring about sleep, but eventually I was able to rest and conclude my LSD journey.
