It is a known fact that gabapentin has a significantly higher bioavailability when taken with a meal that is high in lipids. I will try to break down the effects of gabapentin with four separate experiences: one without any gabapentin and no fatty meal, no gabapentin with a fatty meal, one with gabapentin but no fatty meal, and another with gabapentin and a fatty meal. The meal itself will vary but they are all high in lipid content. I have quite a high tolerance, but the effect of eating a meal high in lipids is the same. This experiment was repeated several times, the only difference being the meals.
- Section 1 - No gabapentin administered without a meal high in lipids
- Amount taken: 0mg
- Other drugs consumed: 200mcg melatonin taken around an hour before, 1000mg of hydroxocobalamin
- Food consumed: Eloise salad
- After eating I felt no effects, restless legs relatively painful. Slept relatively well, likely due to hydroxocobalamin and melatonin supplementation.
- Section 2 - No gabapentin administered with a meal high in lipids
- Amount taken: 0mg
- Other drugs consumed: 200mcg melatonin taken around an hour before, 1000mg of hydroxocobalamin
- Food consumed: 18 ounce porterhouse steak cooked rare, baked potato and green beans
- Felt no effects for around an hour after eating, legs extremely uncomfortable. Felt a threshold drowsiness, most likely due to the large meal I ate. Slept well again, likely due to hydroxocobalamin and melatonin supplementation.
- Section 3 - Gabapentin administered without a meal high in lipids
- Amount taken: 7500mg
- Other drugs consumed: 200mcg melatonin taken around an hour before, 1000mg of hydroxocobalamin
- Food consumed: Bowl of tomato soup, light salad
- Felt no effects for around a half an hour, then I felt a marked decrease in restlessness. No drowsiness. Slept well, likely due to hydroxocobalamin and melatonin supplementation.
- Section 4 - Gabapentin administered with a meal high in lipids
- Amount taken: 7500mg
- Other drugs consumed: 200mcg melatonin taken around an hour before, 1000mg of hydroxocobalamin
- Food consumed: An entire 12 inch cheese pizza
- Around a half hour after eating I felt a slight drowsiness, which became more powerful as the night went on, although at no point was it overwhelming like the drowsiness from benzodiazepines and barbiturates. Drowsiness seemed to split into a sedation part as well as a powerful euphoria. I felt at east, happy, relaxed and generally amazing. Physical euphoria present as well, it was a comforting warmth spreading throughout my entire body, starting from my limbs. Possible tactile enhancement as well, but significantly decreased libido. Decided to take a bubble bath, warm water felt amazing and relaxing. When I closed my eyes, I had vaguely psychedelic imagery, but it was not very intense. Felt completely at peace. Voice was slightly slurred. The euphoria maintained a steady presence and was a perfect intensity for the entire duration of the effects. After around four hours, I decided to go to bed. No leg pain, extremely relaxed. Slept very well without a significant hangover the next day.
Conclusion: Eating a meal high in lipids before consuming gabapentin significantly potentiates its effects. The overall experience of gabapentin at those doses is extremely pleasant, with a euphoria not unlike opioids or MDMA. Be wary of what you eat when you take gabapentin for recreational purposes.
