Suicidal ideation
Suicidal ideation can be described as thoughts or urges regarding suicide. These thoughts and desires range in intensity from fleeting thoughts to an intense fixation usually accompanied by severe depression. This effect can be a manifestation of a number of things including adverse reactions to certain substances, mental illness, traumatic life events, and interpersonal problems. It creates a predisposition to other self-destructive behavior such as self harm and drug abuse, and if left unresolved can eventually leads to attempts of suicide.
Many substances are known to suppress suicidal thoughts such as antidepressents, but aren't helpful in the long term if the underlying issues aren't resolved or coped without chemical reliance, as relapse and desensitisation to antidepressent drugs is not uncommon. Many substances can help better explore the root of the thoughts through introspection, allowing them to be resolved or coped with in a positive manner.
