Essential oils
Citrus Oils
Citrus oils--lemon, lime, orange and possibly grapefruit-- provoke a debatably psychedelic response in the majority of users. They can be taken orally, in a carrier oil, or applied topically (though can cause irritation or rashes--test a very small amount before use). Menthol and camphor appear to speed topical absorption, though should not be used orally. Effects set in over forty minutes to 2 hours.
Effects
- Subtle symmetrical texture repetition
- Drifting, warping
- Color enhancement
- Increased sociability, coupled with anxiolysis
- Mild entactogenation
- Stimulation
- Audio distortion and enhancement
Dosage
- Effects are noticeable though subtle above 0.5ml, though As much as 2.5ml has been tested with not noticeable ill effects.
- Appears to be more potent by a factor of about 1.5 when taken topically.
Duration
- 4-8 hours
Tolerance
- 5 days is an adequate spacing.
Elemi oil/Elemicin
Elemi oil is quite variable from person to person. Thought to be one of the active constituents of nutmeg, elemicn is markedly psychedelic, though many show little reaction.
Effects
- Low intensity CEV and OEVs
- Euphoria
- Audio enhancement
- Stimulation
- Intoxicant effects (when used in the form of elemi oil
- Body Load--due to myrcene in elemi oil
- Rainbow diffraction effects
- Increased pattern recognition
- Drifting, warping
Dosage
- Reports state dosages by drops, so precise dosage is unknown. Orally, reports state that noteworthy effects can be felt from 10 drop and up, with no obvious ceiling. 70 drops is the highest found in a report.
- Appears to much more potent when taken topically. 5-10 drops in a carrier is said to be fully psychedelic.
- Clove oil seems to enhance effects by dampening metabolism.
Duration
- Highly variable, never more than several hours.
Tolerance
- 5 days is an adequate spacing.
Valerian Oil
Valerian and valerian oil, when protected from metabolism by chamomile and clove oils, produces a very unique effect. Valarenic acid, an essential oil, seems to be the active component. The thought processes and visuals have a mildly tryptamine-esque feel, and mental effects set in at lower doses than visual.
Effects
- Low intensity CEV and OEVs, shipibo patterns
- Sedation
- Audio enhancement especially in music
- Opiate-like warmth
- Drifting thoughts
- Vivid mental imagery
- Drifting, warping
- Sensation of falling
Dosage
- Consumed in solid form (supplement/root), 20mg valarenic acids produces light effects. Higher dosages have not been well evaluated.
- 10 drops of oil in a carrier is said to be fully psychedelic.
- May work topically, though this has not been tested.
Duration
- 4-6 hours.
Tolerance
- 5 appears to be an adequate spacing.
