Suicidal ideation can be described as thoughts or urges regarding suicide. These thoughts and desires range in intensity from fleeting thoughts to an intense fixation usually accompanied by severe depression. This effect can be a manifestation of a number of things including adverse reactions to certain substances, mental illness, traumatic life events, and interpersonal problems. It creates a predisposition to other self-destructive behavior such as self-harm and drug abuse and, if left unresolved, can eventually lead to attempts of suicide.
