Saffron has a complex mechanism of action, and is shown to be a serotonin-dopamine-norepinephrine reuptake inhibitor, a monoamine oxidase A & B inhibitor, an acetylcholinesterase inhibitor, an NMDA antagonist, and a GABAa agonist. [2]
