Delirium can be described as a decline from a previously attained baseline level of cognitive function. It typically includes fluctuating attentional deficits and generalized severe disorganization of behavior. It can also involve other cognitive deficits such as changes in energy levels, perceptual deficits, altered sleep-wake cycle, and psychotic features such as hallucinations, psychosis and delusions.
