This page specifies the community standards, rules and guidelines related to the organization, maintenance, and creation of PsychonautWiki content.
PsychonautWiki policies and guidelines are developed by the community to describe best practice, clarify principles, resolve conflicts, and otherwise further our goal of creating a free, reliable encyclopedia.
What should be on this wiki
This wiki contains unbiased information regarding psychonautics (the exploration of consciousness), including comprehensive documentation on the techniques and tools necessary for experiencing the variety of subjective effects found within this field along side of the scientific explanations behind them.
For more information on the type of content we cover please see our Site map.
For details on how pages should be formatted, see the Manual of Style.
What should not be on this wiki
Psuedoscience
PW as an encyclopedia is written with a skeptical mindset which does not tolerate unverifiable psuedoscientific misinformation represented as factual content. This primarily means mysticism and metaphysical speculation when used in the context of explaining that which be otherwise be described through rational, evidence based, naturalistic and scientific explanations.
Opinion
- Main article: Neutral Point of View
This wiki should be written from a neutral point of view. That means it should include facts and technical descriptions which are free from metaphor, not personal or collective opinions. For example, please do not write statements such as "I personally think" or "some people think" on articles.
Manual of style
Subjective effect breakdowns
Codes of conduct
The codes of conduct for this wiki are simple:
- Do not vandalise content.
- Do not post personal information.
- Follow our writing guidelines.
- Be polite and reasonable.
- Use common sense.
Depending on its severity, any violation of these rules can result in a permanent ban based on the personal decision of a PW administrator. If you wish to dispute a ban you may contact us via our IRC.
General Guidelines
- CONSULT THE Special:RecentChanges PAGE REGULARLY TO KNOW WHICH CHANGES HAVE BEEN MADE RECENTLY
- Please get acquainted with the Wiki markup/formatting.
- Please use the "Move" function to move pages, instead of deleting the original page and recopying it manually into the new one, as to not lose all the edit history.
- Please make page names singular, like in an encyclopedia. Redirects can be made to singular pages. It will also help for translations in the future. Category names shall be made plural (?).
- The top level header (=Title=) has almost never any reason to be used in practice, as it is the page's title. In other words, top sections should be Level 2 (==Section==). [1]
- Please use "File:" instead of "Image:" when linking to an image when possible, since "Image:" is the legacy way. [2]
- Please use the Template:SubstanceBox template for new substances as it will simplify the database a great deal. It will definitely be needed for version 1.0 release. Implementation help is available on the template documentation page.
- Please see our standards and a brief walkthrough of how we expect to maintain consistency amongst molecular diagrams across the wiki. Please do not upload externally sourced molecular diagrams as they will vary wildly in appearance. If you are capable, ChemDraw and an image editor with transparency ability can be used to produce the images. Any outstanding images should be added to the list of molecules to be drawn. When using these images in articles, if using the |thumb tag, please also specify the image's full width using File:Something.png|thumb|000px as any resizing of the image will impact its appearance.
- Once an article has been published, please add it to the grammar check to-do list
