There seems to be a contradiction. Theanine is listed among both agonists and antagonists of glutamate.
- @Carusus: Glutamate receptors come in a number of subtypes: mGluR, AMPA, NMDA, kainate, etc. Due to this, it is possible for a single substance to be able to act as an agonist at one site and an antagonist at another. In this case, studies have shown theanine can act as an antagonist at AMPA and kainate but an agonist at NMDA. I have gone ahead and tried to make this clearer (with respective citations).
