DPT
N,N-Dipropyltryptamine (DPT, also known as "The Light") is a psychedelic drug belonging to the tryptamine family, first reported in 1973. DPT is an intense synthetic hallucinogenic drug. DPT is the primary sacrament for "Temple of the True Inner Light" a Christian off shoot organization that believes in psychedelics and primarily DPT as the true flesh of God.
DPT is most commonly consumed via insuffalation or Intramuscular injection. Some report the experience of insuffalation being very painful, which with the rapidness of onset, does not give the user much time to acclimate themselves to the effects as they come on strongly.
Chemistry

Pharmacology
DMT's psychedelic effects are believed to come from its efficacy at the 5-HT2A receptor as a partial agonist. However, the role of these interactions and how they result in the psychedelic experience continues to remain elusive.
Subjective effects
The effects listed below are based upon the subjective effects index and personal experiences of PsychonautWiki contributors. The listed effects will rarely if ever occur all at once but heavier dosages will increase the chances and are more likely to induce a full range of effects.
Physical effects
The physical effects of DPT can often be jarring. At light to moderate doses there is often a slight sense of anesthetization and relaxation. As the dose increases, perceptions of heart rate increase, body tremors, and loss of muscle control are often reported.
- Spontaneous tactile sensations -The body trip of DPT is generally more prominent of that the better known DMT. There is often the sensation of limbs feelings disconnected from the body, a force pinning the body to the surface on which they lay and the body tremors which can often make the user feel aware of but not in control of their body.
DPT can range from strong euphoria and erotiscism, to nausea and dysphoria even within the same trip.
- Changes in gravity - At higher dosages physical feelings of moving through spaces at quick speeds or being pinned down are common.
Cognitive effects
DPT tends to make the user feel slightly anesthetized but unlike disassociatives still aware. At low to moderate doses much of the cognitive effects are not too dissimilar from LSD or Mushrooms. At higher does, the mind tends to pull personal experiences into abstract phenomenal worlds, or bizzare hallucinatory and/or spiritual images to what the mind gravitates too. Most of the cognitive assimilation of the DPT trip comes on the latter half of the trip as the first half the mind is usually overwhelmed by the sensorium that comes across the mind.
- Enhancement of current mind state
- Removal of cultural filter
- Feelings of fascination, importance and awe
- Rejuvination
- Direct communication with the subconscious
- Ego suppression, loss and death
- States of unity and interconnectedness
Visual effects
DMT presents a full and complete array of possible visual enhancements which generally include:
Distortions
As for visual distortions and alterations, effects experienced are detailed below:
- Drifting (Melting, Breathing, Morphing and Flowing) - In comparison to other psychedelics this effect can be described as highly detailed, slow and smooth in motion and static in their appearance.
- Tracers
- After images
- Texture repetition
- Colour shifting
- Scenery slicing
The visual geometry that is present throughout this trip can be described as more similar in appearance to that of Psilocin than LSD. It can be comprehensively described through its variations as intricate in complexity, abstract in form, equally organic and digital in feel, structured in organization, brightly lit, multicoloured in scheme, glossy in shading, equal in sharp and soft edges, large in size, fast in speed, smooth in motion, equal in rounded and angular corners, immersive in depth and consistent in its intensity. At higher dosages it is significantly more likely to result in states of Level 8B visual geometry over Level 8A.
The geometry present with smokeable DMT is often considered to be the most profoundly intricate and complex set of visual geometry found within the entirety of the psychedelic experience. In comparison to orally active DMT (ayahuasca) it is significantly more digital in appearance and contain a colour scheme which is similar to LSD but a structured style that is closer to high dose Psilocin.
Hallucinatory states
DMT produces a full range of high level hallucinatory states in a fashion that is more consistent and reproducible than that of any other commonly used psychedelic. These effects include:
- Transformations
- Internal hallucinations (Autonomous entities, Settings, sceneries, and landscapes, Alterations in perspective and Scenarios and plots) - DMT produces high level internal hallucinations at appropriate dosages perhaps more consistently than that of any other psychedelic. They are more common within dark environments and can be comprehensively described through their variations as lucid in believability, interactive in style, new experiences in content, autonomous in controllability, geometry based in style and almost exclusively of a religious, spiritual, mystical or transcendental nature in their overall theme.
Auditory effects
The auditory effects of DMT are common in their occurrence and exhibit a full range of effects which commonly include:
Progressive stages
When smoked at moderate to heavy dosages, the DMT trip manifests itself in a consistent and linear order which is categorized below.
Taking off
The first step of a DMT trip is the come up that leads onto breaking through. This is something that seems to have at least a few different ways of presenting itself to the user as they start to smoke DMT.
The first thing that a person notices is an extremely distinct set of visual enhancements and most notably an increase in visual acuity and colour intensity.
This is followed by a sudden onset of high level 3 geometry, the body high and the feeling of your body being pleasantly tugged in all directions at once from the inside.
This is often accompanied by a soft crackling sound and an extended tone that quickly increases in volume and pitch proportionally as the visual effects increase. This sound becomes all enveloping abruptly ends as one of a few different "take off" options are experienced.
These include, but are certainly not limited to:
- Feelings of suddenly being pushed through and onto the other side of a membrane,
- The external environment splitting in two down the middle leaving a gaping infinite chasm filled with incredibly fast moving visuals as you separate from your body shooting directly into it at light speed
- Increasingly intense geometry simply becoming so all enveloping that absolutely nothing of the room is left any more.
This all happens within the space of about 30 seconds to a minute and leads directly onto the second stage of a DMT trip.
The other side
Coming down
The final stage is experienced as the sensation of being pulled further and further away from the scenario in which one was placed as the entities often wave goodbye and encourage one to come back when you next get the chance.
Toxicity and Harm Potential
DPT is not known to cause brain damage, and has extremely low toxicity relative to dose. Similar to other psychedelic drugs, there are relatively few physical side effects associated with DPT exposure. Various studies have shown that in reasonable doses in a careful context, it presents no negative cognitive, psychiatric or toxic physical consequences of any sort.
Lethal Dosage
Tolerance and Addiction Potential
There is no tolerance with DPT usage, meaning that it can be used multiple times in a day without the effects diminishing. Due to the mind-altering psychedelic effects, most users show no addiction to DPT and use often decreases with time.
