DILD (Dream Initiated Lucid Dream) was coined by Dr. Stephen LaBerge, a psychophysiologist who specialized in oneironautics. It is used to refer to any lucid dream where the dreamer becomes aware that they are in a dream while inside it. This is in contrast to WILD (Wake Initiated Lucid Dream) in which the dreamer brings their woken awareness into a dream while falling asleep.
