Estradiol (also known as oestradiol, E or E2) is an estrogen steroid hormone and the major female sex hormone.

History and culture

It is a basic, natural estrogen. Chemically, it is a steroid, a derivative of estrone.

Responsible for the development of the female reproductive organs, proliferation of the endometrium, regulates the sexual cycle and affects sexual behavior. During the follicular phase, it is produced mainly in the ovaries by growing Graaf follicles. In the corpus luteum phase, it is secreted in very small amounts by the corpus luteum. It is also produced in the adrenal cortex and during pregnancy in the placenta.

Chemistry

Esters

As a medication estradiol is commonly(especially when injected) administered in the form of prodrug esters to improve duration of action.

Compound Halflife via IM Structure
Estradiol Valerate 1.2–7.2 days
Estradiol Cypionate 8–10 days
Estradiol Enantate 5.6–7.5 days
Estradiol Undecylate ~1 month

Subjective effects

Disclaimer: The effects listed below cite the Subjective Effect Index (SEI), an open research literature based on anecdotal user reports and the personal analyses of PsychonautWiki contributors. As a result, they should be viewed with a healthy degree of skepticism.

It is also worth noting that these effects will not necessarily occur in a predictable or reliable manner, although higher doses are more liable to induce the full spectrum of effects. Likewise, adverse effects become increasingly likely with higher doses and may include addiction, severe injury, or death ☠.
